The “Broken Bow” of Iran
The prophecy of “ELAM”, found in JEREMIAH 49:34–39, speaks of a significant event involving a once powerful nation. While this prophecy may had a historical fulfillment, its language also suggests a future fulfillment, especially when viewed alongside current events.
“Elam, an ancient region located in SOUTHWESTERN IRAN, has been the subject of speculation in light of recent geopolitical tensions, particularly concerning Iran’s nuclear program and regional instability.
*IRAN’S NUCLEAR PROGRAM IS TODAY LOCATED IN THE ANCIENT PART OF IRAN, ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS “ELAM!
The first “WAR”, recorded in the Bible, is in Genesis 14. “WARS” and are predicted to continue until Christ Jesus comes back to the Earth (MATTHEW 24:4-21; REVELATION 26:1-8;
REVELATION13: 4-8; REVELATION 19:11-21).
In Genesis 14, four kings make war, with five kings and defeat them, this is how “Lot” becomes a prisoner, and the chief overlord of the four kings is “Chedorlaomer”, the KING OF ELAM. Abram (Abraham) defeated the four kings in the “Battle of Dan” (GENESIS 14:13-15) and got back Abram’s nephew Lot.
Abram is blessed by “Melchizedek,” King and priest of Salem (GENESIS 14:18-20), the ancient name of Jerusalem, and where Abram is said to be the servant of the “MOST HIGH GOD” (EL-ELYON), and is referenced as such, in 245 places in the Bible.
JEREMIAH 49:34 – “The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying”,
JEREMIAH 49:35 – “Thus says the Lord of hosts; behold, I WILL BREAK THE BOW OF ELAM, the chief of their might”.
The first element of the prophecy is the “BREAKING OF ELAM’S BOW”, which symbolizes its military might. In ancient times, the “BOW” was the primary weapon in warfare, representing the strength and capability of a nation’s army. The “BREAKING OF THE BOW” is seen as a future event where Elam’s military power will be crippled.
* IN ANCIENT TIMES, OTHER COUNTRIES WOULD HIRE MERCENARY TROOPS FROM “ELAM” BECAUSE OF THEIR ARCHERY SKILLS – WITH A “BOW”!
In a modern context, this could be interpreted as a crippling blow to Iran’s military capabilities, particularly it’s on going nuclear program. The nuclear facility at “BUSHEHR”, LOCATED IN THE REGION THAT ONCE WAS “ELAM”, has been the center of global attention. The “BOW” could represent not only traditional military power but also Iran’s nuclear ambition, which has the potential to be destroyed, through military intervention, by at least Israel or by internal conflict.
JEREMIAH 49:36 – “And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come”.
The prophecy continues with the vivid image of Elam’s people being scattered to “THE FOUR WINDS”. The phrase represents a worldwide dispersion, similar to the fate of Israel when it when its people were scattered due to the disobedience and judgment of God (DEUTERONOMY 28:64). This scattering of the “Elamites” implies a large-scale displacement, likely caused by warfare or disaster, where the people are forced to flee to every corner of the earth.
The scattering could be related to a nuclear disaster, a military strike, or internal collapse, driving the people of Elam out of their homeland. Current events and Iran, ranging from political unrest and economic instability, point toward a scenario where a mass migration could occur, following this aspect of the prophecy.
* Since the establishment of the Islamic government in 1979, the Iranian currency has undergone an 11,000-fold decline in value. More than 40% of the Iranians are now living below the poverty line.
* There are 15,000 Mosques closed in Iran.
* Iran is on its back foot. It has seen all of its major allies, they were formerly part of the of Iran’s “SHI’A CRESCENT”, – Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, and the Assad regime in Syria, all falling away and have become weakened or destroyed allies, to Iran.
* Iran invested 50 billion in keeping “Assad” in power: now that 50 billion has gone up in smoke, and the Iranian people are keenly aware of that loss, which has enraged many of them.
JEREMIAH 49:37 – “For I will cause ELAM TO BE DISMAYED BEFORE THEIR ENEMIES, and BEFORE THEM THAT SEEK THEIR LIFE: and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith the Lord; and I WILL SEND A SWORD AFTER THEM, TILL I HAVE CONSUMED THEM”:
JEREMIAH 49:38 – “And I WILL SET MY THRONE IN ELAM, and will destroy them thence the king and the princes, saith the Lord”.
One of the most mysterious parts of this prophecy is the declaration that “GOD WILL SET UP HIS THRONE IN ELAM”! Indicates a future time when god will establish his presence or authority in the land of Elam. The idea of God setting His “THRONE”, in a nation He previously judged, suggests a powerful and significant shift in the nation, and possibly a “SPIRITUAL REVIVAL”, of which Currently, in the last few years Iran has been going through a spiritual revival – PERHAPS WE ARE WITNESSING THE BEGINNING OF ONE THE GREATEST CURRENT SPIRITUAL REVIVALS IN THE WORLD!
JEREMIAH 49:39 – “But it shall come to pass in the LATTER DAYS, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the Lord.”
God promised mercy to the people of “Elam” in the “Latter Days”.
One fulfillment of this was a message of the Gospel and the new covenant coming to and embraced by the people of Elam, who were among Peter’s audience, on the Day of Pentecost (ACTS 2:9), as they saw the wonderful works of God and heard the wonderful words of God, in their own tongue.
The “Elamites” were there at the beginning of the “Church Age” and with the revival in Iran, of late, they will be there at the end of the “Church Age” – And when Christ Jesus Reigns in His “Millennial Kingdom”, here on earth.
As events unfold in the Middle East, believers should remain watchful and prayerful, understanding that God’s plans for the nation, including “Elam”, will come to pass in His perfect timing. The prophecy of Elam, like many others, serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty and mercy, who judges nations, and also offers the hope of restoration to those who turned to Him.
